So, I’ve decided that when I finish my Master’s degree I’m going to gift myself a four-figure watch. I have my $99 Fossil Aviator automatic and a Timex Weekender coming in from Amazon today. I wanted a khaki fabric strap.
My first expensive watch will be the same kind my grandfather was gifted when he retired in 1978 after 30 years with RCA:
Omega Seamaster Deville. Not yellow gold though. Mine will be white gold. Maybe I’ll get my wife one to match, too.

My parents gifted me with a nice watch when I graduated. Wearing it today cause I’m not flying internationally with my Rolex on.

If I count the two after the decimal, my watch cost four figures.

I’ve never had a ‘nice’ watch. I think I have a $200 omega that my dad had that i wear sometimes when i want to be a little classy, but nothing more.

After wearing a chunky automatic for a while I want something thinner and lighter. If I can find the right Deville I might just go mechanical or quartz. Plus the Omegas have the look I want. Very subdued and conservative.

And I’m sitting here thinking about the Garmin Vivoactive 3 that I had to return because it didn’t work properly... I’d love a nice looking smart watch, but man these nice time pieces look great!

My Rolex actully wears thinner than my Tag, despite the Tag being quartz. I like the seamaster, but the ones I liked were way too thick.

Solid choice! You going new or vintage?

Watches fascinate me...I don’t have anywhere near the disposable income to buy one, but I do have a 75-year-old Girard-Perregaux that belonged to my great grandfather, the only guy in my family in the past 100 years to actually have spending money for jewelry and trinkets :D
It’s a nice piece, but way too fancy for everyday wear. Plus the metal band slowly depilitates my wrist, so when I’m not wearing it, I look like I half-assedly shaved my left wrist.
So it’s sitting in the safe deposit box, along with my wife’s Rolex Oyster that her dad gave her 25 years ago. Insurance riders just aren’t worth the money for us :D

My Fossil was $99. My Timex Weekender was $47.50. I read somewhere that the Weekender was the best cheap watch you could buy, so I bought one. Apparently even through his presidency, George HW Bush wore a Timex. So did his son. Clinton wore an Ironman digital.

I’d like to go vintage. My grandfather’s watch was a mechanical one in the same style as the automatic in the picture. It was thin and lightweight but still had a quality feel.

Nice, I’ve been lusting after a vintage seamaster for a while. Try to find one with the 5xx series movements, some of the best movements ome ga made, and still easily serviced today

I’m a member of that club. Mine might have broke into three figures if I count the cost of the leather band and the spring bar tool to install it, too. I’m really digging being a watch person again, and I dig that this is a mechanical watch.

I daily a Nixon Cannon like this one (black face though)
I’d like to get the Omologata James Hunt Chronograph
It’s around $500. I used to really like Movado but have cooled on them. Fossil used to be my go to before Nixon.

I’ve got a Weekender on my wrist as we speak, band is OD green. It loses about 4-5 seconds a month
so not horrible, but it is the best cheap watch.
